EDWARD F. BEALE DETAILS-

1822- Edward Fitzgerald Beale born in Washington,DC, son of GB III & Emily Truxtun Beale.
1836- EFB in Chester at Greenbank with his mother
1849- EFB marries Mary Engle Edwards of Chester, dau of Saml Edwards, politician, and Mary Ann Edwards.(Beale book).1885 newspaper article states she descended from Francis Smith, an English Quaker from Devizes, co Wilts, England. F Smith settled in Kennett Twp in 1683. Her father was a noted Federalist (Beale-EF-west-big cab)
1858- EFB started buying property in Chester
1867-EFB mansion & property spanned 8 or 9 city blocks, bordering Edgmont Rd,north of 6th St.. Bounded on north by Friends Burial ground & on west by Chester Creek.Chester’s biz section south of property. The Stacey, Engle, Kerlin, & Porter families all connected by familial ties to the Beales, also lived in Chester.(p178, EFB & Am West,Thompson )
1880- EFB erected multistory building called Beale Block in Chester (ibid p221)
1885- Newspaper article covering career of EFB & his family states “ the Beale family is of historical Pennsylvania stock.” (?) (Beale-Edw F-west-file-big cab)
1893- EFB buried Chester Rural Cemetery in Edwards family plot- a short distance away are graves of Edwards & Kerlin families.”Beyond the grassy green hillside sat William Penn’s old community”( ibid, p 236)
NOTE- JOHN BEALS (1650-1726) CAME OVER WITH WM PENN (see O below), AND OWNED PROPERTY ON THE WEST SIDE OF CHESTER CREEK, IN THE MIDDLE OF WHAT NOW APPEARS TO BE CHESTER !
