5/7/15---MY IDEA OF A POSSIBLE ANCESTOR---- HUGH FATHER OF RICHARD

OBJECTIVE---To find ancestors of Richard le Bel of Priors Dean, Hants. Le Bel family also connected to Frensham Manor, Surrey.
I have identified a possible ancestor in Hugh of Kevelioc, possibly the father of Richard le Bel. We have a court case which may identify the family, and we know Richard's wife. We know a later Richard le Bel owned land in Mapledurham and Priors Dean. Our objective is to identify ancestor of Richard le Bel.

A)- BACKGROUND---

1)- Domesday returns show Maplederham (Buriton and Petersfield) belonged to Queen Matilda...this plus Priors Dean, all belonged to William the Conqueror in 1086.
Priors Dean is placed among the king's lands, known as "Terra Regis"...

2)- Richard Le Bel owned a house with orchard and over 60 acres of land in Priors Dean. In addition, he owned two 60 acre lots in Mapledurham. Thus he was a substantial landowner in the king's lands.

4)- Hugh of Kevelioc, the great great grandson of William the Conqueror (see graph below).
Hugh had a son Richard.

Hugh had a daughter Matilda/Maud. On her webpage it states " That Richard is a son of Earl Hugh, Matilda's father, is recorded in the Domesday Descendants."

D)- OWNERS OF MAPLEDURHAM AND PRIORS DENE ( "Terra Regis"):--------

(dna19 p.93,169)
SEE DATA # 15------dtd May 15

1)- The uncle of Hugh of Kevelioc (William Fitz Robert, 2nd earl of Glou.) owned Mapledurham, and it passed down through King John to the family. Hugh's uncle's daughter Mable married Hugh's wife's brother Amauri de Montfort. Their son Amaury VI was the owner of Mapledurham/Priors Dene. Aumary VI was Richard le Bel's first cousin. This gives Richard le Bel a close connection to the property, and explains Richard's large holdings there.
